Famous VisitorsRobin HoodThe legendary Robin Hood (aka Robin of Loxley) and his Merry Men, along with Robin's partner, Maid Marion, may well have visited Huthwaite whilst fleeing the evil Sheriff of Nottingham! All of them may well have breathed 'Huthwaite Air'! Emperor HadrianThe Roman Emperor Hadrian may well have made a detour to take in the delights of Huthwaite on his way up north to build the wall that was named after him, Hadrian's Wall. So, Hadrian himself may also have breathed 'Huthwaite Air'. George Gordon ByronAlso known as the 6th Lord Byron (1788-1824), he lived for a while at Newstead Abbey, just down the road from Huthwaite. Bearing in mind the many hostelries that were to be found in Huthwaite, it is almost inconceivable that Lord Byron, with his reputation for enjoying a beer or two, did not visit Huthwaite at some time. So Lord Byron, and possibly Mary Shelley (the author of Frankenstein) too, may well have breathed 'Huthwaite Air'. Indeed, having lived in Huthwaite for some 20 years, I think it is highly likely that Mary Shelley may well have gained inspiration for her monster from Huthwaite. My MumMy mum visited Huthwaite, and breathed 'Huthwaite Air', on many occasions. Her fame derived from the fact that she gave birth to me, AirMaster and creator of this site. |
